In my neck of the woods, the "look" seems to be tiered skirts, plain spaghetti strap tank tops in varying bright colors, and layered muscle tank tops (hideous, I know). Jewelry-wise, think layered necklaces (nice in the fall, but not so much in the summer when it's hot!) and large earrings. As far as makeup, everything seems to go.
As for me, I like my own style. I'm fond of a dip-dyed multi-tiered skirt I picked up at Lane Bryant last month, and plain spaghetti strap tank tops I've paired with numerous pairs of capris.
Above all, summer is about comfort. I like looking good, but I like feeling cool even better!

You can be fat AND fashionable
I'm totally loving the fact that many "regular" stores are beginning to offer more fashionable lines of plus size clothing. Stores like K-Mart, Walmart and Target used to have very little in terms of fashionable plus size clothing. What they did have consisted of plain, oversized shirts, frumpy button up tops, and mom jeans. So, I got used to paying high prices for the clothing I want.
And while I still shop at Fashion Bug and Lane Bryant, I have also added Target, Old Navy and Avenue to my list. Target is carrying many more styles for plus size women now, and they even have a new line -- their "Young Contemporary" -- which is geared towards younger women and teenage girls. Old Navy sells a few plus size items in their stores, but if you go to their website you can shop sizes 16-30, and let me tell you, the clothes are AFFORDABLE, FASHIONABLE, and most importantly, TRUE TO SIZE (ladies, watch out for Target: their plus size clothes tend to run 1-2 sizes too small!).
So there you have it... for fashionable plus size, keep Fashion Bug and Lane Bryant at the top of your list, but Old Navy, Target and Avenue are also worth giving a whirl!

Where to shop for plus-size clothing
I am plus-size, but I am not frumpy. I'd sooner leave my house in garbage bags than wear some of the frumpy, old-lady style clothing that stores like K-Mart and Walmart carry. Since I have been plus-size for so long, I have definitely shopped around, and I know where to find fashionable and stylish clothing that fits well and looks good (well, as good as it'll look on a plus-size woman!).
For "junior" style jeans and tops, and the latest in coats and jewelry, look no further than Fashion Bug. They have a great selection of sportswear, casual, semi-casual and business casual clothing and accessories in sizes 14-32. You can expect to pay $30-$40 for fashion jeans and pants, and $25-$30 for fashion tops.
Looking for intimates? I recommend Fashion Bug for underwear -- boy shorts, hipsters, low-rise, bikini and thong. But use Lane Bryant for bras. They fit and look better, and last longer.
For slightly cheaper plus-size clothing that is casual and comfortable, Old Navy is the way to go. They often clearance a lot of their seasonal clothing, so you'll be able to find tops and pants for 50% off or more!
